My Cousin’s Son Was Rejected

I was here in 1988 and I remember what some of my relatives went through. My cousin and his wife both grew up in the United Church, married in the church and had two children attending Sunday School.

In his teens, their son declared he was homosexual. There was such bitter anger from church members on accepting the United Church stand. People, who were on committees with my cousin, now turned against them. They were or had been friends. They were in disbelief. Even the minister did not support the statement. They ended up leaving that church and fortunately finding another United Church that accepted them and their family.

I am sure this is a very common story across the country.
